Ian Mutibwa is a Partner at Signum Advocates, a law firm located in Kampala, Uganda where he specializes in Banking and Finance and Domestic and International Tax advisory.
He has previously worked with KPMG East Africa and Shonubi Musoke & Co. Advocates. Ian was also privileged to be seconded to Latham and Watkins LLP in the UK in the International Tax and Project Finance Departments as part of the prestigious International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) Programme with a special emphasis to the African Market.
He participated in the Tax advisory of the Islamic Finance Regulation in Uganda before the Regulations were enacted. He was also the lead adviser to Salaam African Bank, a leading Islamic bank based in Djibouti, where they had interests in setting up an Islamic Bank in Uganda. Ian has conducted trainings on Islamic finance/Banking to various financial institutions in Uganda such as Stanbic Bank, Housing Finance Bank and Pride Microfinance Limited.
Signum Advocates is listed on the Islamic Finance Panel for Stanbic Bank in Uganda. Ian has written thought leadership articles on Islamic Finance.
Ian earned his LLB (with Honours) from Makerere University and Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He is a member of the Professional Development Committee of the Uganda Law Society.
